Deco Drama With a Dangerous Fringe
This extraordinary one-of-a-kind pendant began with a pink, purple, gray and white banded agate pyramid rediscovered in my de-stash — and turned into something far too dramatic to remain forgotten.
The agate has been transformed into a sculptural Art Deco-meets-Egyptian Revival statement piece with serious presence. Around the 2:00 position of the stone is a naturally crystallized druzy area that catches the light beautifully; this is part of the stone’s natural character, not a flaw. The very tip of the agate also shows an unusual dye pattern, another distinctive feature of the gemstone rather than a defect.
The sculpted gemstone portion measures approximately 3" wide x 4" high. Beneath it falls approximately 11–12" of fuchsia and aurora borealis rhinestone fringe, creating a long, liquid curtain of sparkle and movement.
The pendant is suspended from a mixed gold- and silver-tone chain with an approximately 9" drop on each side and a tiny lobster claw clasp.
The pendant has some substance to it, as you would expect from a sculptural gemstone piece of this scale, but I do not consider it excessively heavy.
The overall effect is pure wearable spectacle: geometric, decadent, slightly dangerous and impossible to ignore.
Wear it with an LBD if you must.
But the necklace is unlikely to behave.
