This one-of-a-kind wearable art piece began life as a sculptural ring that refused to find its person. Rather than let the form disappear, I deconstructed and rebuilt it into something far more dramatic: an avant-garde chest piece built around contrast, weight, and movement.
The focal combines a thick, substantial agate with a hand-sculpted surround finished in warm metallic tones. Those coppery and gold surfaces are deliberately set against cooler gunmetal and silver chainwork, creating a tension between warmth and steel that gives the piece its character.
The sculptural pendant itself measures approximately 4" x 2.5" and is nearly 1.25" thick. With the cascading chains, the full pendant measures approximately 4" x 10".
Because the agate is dense and substantial, I chose not to add unnecessary sculptural weight to the reverse. Instead, the back is finished with metallic gold upholstery fabric to create a softer barrier between the piece and the body while helping protect skin and clothing from abrasion.
All of the chains used in the piece are vintage and unworn. The necklace portion has an approximate 9.5" drop per side and closes with hand-sculpted end caps and a small lobster clasp.
